We started this 43km Tukituki Valley eBike loop ride from beside the Clive River at the Evers-Swindell Reserve carpark on a fine autumn day.
To see: orchards, farmland, wetlands, vineyards, great views of Te Mata Peak. Undulating hills. Requires a fully charged battery and some hill riding experience.

We followed the shared pathway past the wetlands, apple orchards full of ripe fruit being picked and vineyards, to Black Bridge. We crossed Mill Road following the shared pathway to Origin Earth at the end of Te Mata Road, Havelock North.
From there we rode alongside the majestic Te Mata Peak, the Craggy Range vineyards and winery to Red Bridge where we crossed the Tukituki River on Waimarama Road. Part of this section is on road as well as a shared pathway. * as of 2021, there is an extended off road section alongside Waimarama Road. Be aware that the shared pathway may have a scattering of fallen tree debris enroute.
After the Red Bridge (good coffee at the café) crossing we turned immediately left onto the undulating Tukituki Road. Eventually after just over 9kms from Red Bridge, we turned left onto Moore Road. We were advised that Moore Road is a downhill and to beware of the loose gravel at the end. From there we turned right onto the 6kms shared pathway along the river bank, turning left to cross Black Bridge, then crossing the road to join the just over 5kms shared pathway back to our starting point at Clive.
Café stop: Red Bridge Container Café.
Update July 2021. A new limestone, off road trail was completed. It runs alongside Waimarama Road between Te Mata Rd and Craggy Range Winery, on the Havelock North side. More information here.
12 April 2020:This ride was first ridden by the group on the 14/11/2017 since then the group has ridden the loop a further ten times of which the last five times was in 2019. This small fact indicates the level of confidence in the group to take on more adventurous rides as we have matured as a riding group.
We have yet to revisit this ride in 2020 but it was on the last schedule.
The ride itself is a favourite amongst many due to its magnificent views and variable layout.
The usual coffee stop is the Red Bridge Container Café.
What do I like about this ride?
For me if I ride to Clive and then ride the loop it provides a good foundation to continue on and complete a 100 km ride. ( I favour long rides).
Apart from that achievement it is very satisfying to see first time loopers complete an iconic ride.
The ever changing views as the seasons change provide ongoing interest. – Charlie

25th August 2019 It’s almost at the end of winter and spring is about to pop in the Tukituki Valley. There are new leaves on some of the willows, pink blossoms appearing and daffodils swaying in the breeze. The Tukituki Valley ride continues to be a eBike Social Riders Hawkes Bay Group favourite. Twelve riders turned out to enjoy the winter sunshine, riding along the Landscape Trail, country roads and the coastal trail, from Clive and back.
