This is another one of the E-bike Social Riders Hawkes Bay on-road, super loop, hilly rides, so be sure to start with your battery fully charged. This eBike loop ride from the Taradale Rugby Club, Guppy Road, (with an option to start from Puketapu Pub) to Apley Road via Dartmoor Road and beyond has stunning views, great downhills and a well-deserved coffee/lunch stop. Majestic snow covered ranges to see in the winter. This will test your skills changing gears to take in the ups and downs. Very rewarding. A great ride to do in spring and autumn.
If you have not yet attempted riding uphill and learnt how to use the gears and power on your e.bike, then getting some practice in before doing this ride is strongly advised.

Long Ride Route: Taradale Rugby Club Guppy Rd – Puketapu Hotel – Dartmoor Rd – Appley Rd – Puketitiri Rd – Puketapu Rd – Puketapu Hotel-Pettigrew Arena. This is a hilly ride on country roads with excellent views from Puketitiri Rd.
Total Distance: 47 Kms Est starting from Taradale Rugby Club or 27 kms starting from Puketapu Hotel
This route includes moderate to short steep sections which start mid way along Apley Rd and top out along Puketitiri Rd. Similar to the Tukituki Loop and not as steep as Te Mata Peak and definitely not as steep as Bluff Hill!
The downhill section along Puketitiri Rd is ace. Safety Considerations – fast moving local traffic and large trucks, consider keeping left and in single file.
Shorter Alternative Ride – Taradale Rugby Club Guppy Rd – Puketapu Reserve – Puketapu Pub – Pettigrew Arena This ride is mainly on the trails with a short section on the road to the Puketapu Reserve. Ride Distance approx. 20 Kms.
Coffee Stop – Puketapu Pub or the Puketapu Diary
Public toilets – Puketapu Reserve, Dartmoor Road.
