For e bike riders who are used to riding along the flat pathways of the Hawkes Bay Trails, the Te Mata Peak climb can be challenging. Learning how to use your gears and adjust for pedal assist power are great skills. It is all worthy of achieving. Not only are the views amazing from the top of the Peak, you can also experience the thrill of the long downhill. Rewards for the long steady climb upwards. Est Distance: 35 kms

Route:Caroline Rd – Fredrick St – Groove Rd – Windsor – Ada St – Left to Saint Georges Rd – Right to Crosses Rd- Right on to Napier Rd – Left to St Hill Lane – Left to Te Mata Rd – Right to Simla Ave – Left to Te Mata Peak Rd – Summit.
Return – Te Mata Peak Rd – Left to Simla Ave – Right on to Greenwoods Rd – Right
on to Mc Hardy St- Right on to Chambers St- Left to Te Mata Rd – to CBD.
Shorter Ride As above but continue along Napier Rd to Middle Rd – Lolly Shop – U
turn to Havelock North CBD wait for the hill climbers.
Return – Havelock Rd – Saint Georges – Ada St – Windsor -Groove Rd – Fredrick St
– Caroline Rd.

The Te Mata Peak challenge was held again. It started off as a cold and frosty morning, with sunshine. I was hoping that the cloud would stay high so that we could appreciate the snow capped ranges and to view the distant Mount Ruapehu. Fifteen riders from the E-Bike Social Riders Hawkes Bay group made the climb to the summit. And the views were spectacular.
