Members of the Ebike Social Riders Hawkes Bay group spent 3 days exploring the country roads, urban streets and Te Awa River Trails of Cambridge and Hamilton. We stayed at the very comfortable Podium Lodge in Cambridge.
Section 1 – Ngaruawahia to Hamilton Return : Excellent riding trail, challenging good views and good surface.
Very lucky with the weather. Stunning day. Beautiful scenery. Awesome trees. Wonderful birdsong. Amazing houses high above the river. Great to cycle next to the river. Mostly concrete shared pathways. 53.04kms.
Section 2 – Velodrome to Hamilton Gardens Return – Mixture of country open speed roads.
Overcast and calm weather. Beautiful manicured horse studs. Trees slightly touched with autumn colours. Terrific morning coffee stop at the Punnet Eatery. 45.72kms.
Poor signage when cycling from the Velodrome to Hamilton. No mid way crossing points on the busy road between the Velodrome and Peake Rd.
Section 3 – Velodrome to Lake Karapiro : Mixture of trails and urban streets.
We all rugged up in preparation for the expected rain. Wide concrete shared pathways most of the ride. Grey skies out, rain on the return. 34.93kms which includes me riding across the dam.
Highlight is the boardwalk section along Lake Karapiro. Sign posting was adequate.
