Waipawa Loop via Argyll and Otane

This country roads loop from Waipawa via Argyll and Otane in Central Hawkes Bay, takes in beautiful hill scenery along the 38kms length. At present the trees are beginning to show their autumn colours and many of the hills are still brown due to lack of rain. There is one very long sweeping downhill on Argyll Road, which riders may wish to whiz down or you could take your time and stop along the way to enjoy the views.

Route (Ebike Social Riders Hawkes Bay):

Meeting and Start Point: Islington Drive Carpark behind shops in Waipawa. Please note “don’t park in front of the TAB/Library”.

Ride out: Waipawa – Tikokino Rd – Right to Argyll East Rd (The Brow Rd) – Left over the bridge stay on Argyll East Rd – Left to Argyll Rd to village – U Turn on Argyle Rd to SH2 – Left to SH2 – Right to Higginson St

Coffee Stop Otane Pub (check opening times/days)

Ride back; Henderson St – left to Knorp St – Right to White Rd – White Rd Extension – Right to Racecourse Rd – Left to Homeward Rd – Right to Ireland Rd – Right to Taumumu Rd – Left to Johnson St – Right to Bibby St – Victoria St – Cross SH2 to Islington Drive.

Hazards and considerations: Mainly uphill for the first 19 kms. Road riding with a couple of times we will need to cross SH2, farm traffic and cars etc. Est. Distance 40 kms

Hazards: 100 k/ph traffic, farm vehicles.
