South Island Tour – Nelson Leg

In March 2022, a group from Ebike Social Riders Hawkes Bay, embarked on a tour of New Zealand’s South Island. The tour was devised by Charlie and Robyn Davey, aided by others from the group. Pippi Wells, a rider in the group, has graciously allowed me to use her Facebook posts to recount the trip. First stop Nelson. Three rides in three days.

Ride One: Motueka back to Nelson Ride Two: Wakefield up to and thru Spooners Tunnel and on to Kohatu. Ride Three: Motueka to Dunbar Estate.

Day 1 South Island Tour 2022, Motueka back to Nelson, about 56ks. Great ride and perfect weather.

Mapua and Mapua ferry, Rabbit Island beach, Ruby Bay

Day 2, we cycled from Wakefield up to and thru Spooners Tunnel and on to Kohatu, about 56ks, lunch at Kohau Pub. Again perfect weather, lovely scenery and great company.

Day 3 – Motueka to Dunbar Estate for a lovely lunch under the trees. Along the Motueka estuary we passed the wreck of the Janie Seddon, on through beautiful countryside and along the side of the picturesque Motueka River and across the little Peninsula Bridge, which surprised me to realise it was also a traffic bridge when a car and caravan followed us over! A super ride for our final one round Nelson.
