About E-bike Social Riders HB

E Bike Social Riders Hawke Bay (06/04/2023)

Introduction: Our group was formed and with help from Sports Hawkes Bay. Our first ride was on the 28th March 2017.

From slow beginnings our group has grown to become one of several established cycling groups in the Hawkes Bay.

Tuesday Group: We ride mainly on the local trails, urban and country roads. Our ride distance is usually between 30 to 50 kms. The rides are selected to be suitable for all bikes and all abilities. The ride pace is to suit the group.

Ride Schedule Meetings (Tuesday Rides). An open invitation is issued to all riders to attend or post a favourite ride for selection. The Ride Schedule Meetings are held every six weeks to determine the next six weeks rides. Our selected rides are posted weekly. Each ride is assessed at the time of selection for suitability and timing including tides, school holidays and cruise ship traffic.

Thursday Group (Seriously Social!): This is a short ride group with a ride distance target of 30 kms mainly on the off-road trails. These rides are determined by consensus during the coffee stop.

All Rides: A group text is sent out the day before each ride. We run a no drop ride policy to ensure that nobody gets left behind, and all rides have a volunteered Tail End Charlie (TEC). The TEC is in phone contact with a ride leader and can make contact in the event of a problem. All rides have been risk assessed, and any new ride routes are ridden by a ride leader prior to the event for further assessment. A ride briefing is held before each ride.

The group has five complete first aid kits which have been distributed around the three groups. We occasionally run two rides on the same day when deemed necessary due to cycle transport or rider ability restrictions.

Cancelations: Are sent by a group text on the day of the ride and posted on our Facebook pages.

Our Riding Culture: Our cycling culture is the NZ Cycling Code and the Hawkes Bay Pathway Guides. We encourage bell ringing, the wearing of bright clothing and safe riding practice always. We encourage riders to attend the free NZ Cycling Rider Leader Workshops. We do not tolerate reckless riding or disrespectable behaviour towards any member.

Facebook: Our rides are posted on our on our private Facebook page E-Bike Social Riders Hawkes Bay Our private Facebook page is openly interactive and includes photos, ride events and other information not presented in our open Facebook page.

Our private group page is https://www.facebook.com/groups/313611829479009/

Administration: We are a free group and do not charge a subscription.

The group leader maintains a rider contact list which includes an emergency contact phone number for each rider.

The rider contact list is available on each ride and is carried in the group leader’s saddle bag.

Monogrammed Cycle Wear: The Ebike Social Riders Hawkes Bay Monogram can be printed on any single sided new or existing cycle wear by Stitchery House Hastings. The monogram file reference is E-bike Social Riders Hawkes Bay /Mark Davey. The cost is $11.50 per item.

We are a social riding group so enjoy the ride and please participate in the running of your group.

Welcome

About the Blog Author
Hi. My name is Helen Wenley. I have lived in Hawkes Bay since June 2015.

I have loved cycling in the UK and Europe and now that I live in Hawkes Bay I am able to experience that exhilarating feeling of freedom again. At the beginning of 2018, I traded in my regular bicycle for an e Bike, and since then I have cycled further than ever. I have joined the E bike Social Riders Hawkes Bay to help me find my way around with like-minded people.

I previously lived in Auckland and I was a keen walker there. I started Short Walks in Auckland to provide people with loop walking maps and directions on brochures. I also published a series of 12 guide books; collections of the brochures.

My main aim is to have fun, and to make cycling a pleasure. I would like you to experience the same.
