About Hwenley

I moved to Hawkes Bay in 2015. I bought a new bike but after a year, decided that an ebike was the best way to explore Hawkes Bay. It meant that I could go further and arrive back home exhilarated, instead of exhausted. The ebike has put the fun back into cycling.

Pauatahanui Inlet Loop (Te Ara Piko) – Wellington

This Pauahanui Inlet Loop ride was first suggested by Bill Wilson as a possible ride for the Ebike Social Riders Hawkes Bay group when we visit Wellington in Feb 2021 as an add on the Remutaka Trail Tour. The origins of the route come from the “Chain Gang” Cycling Group Wellington.
The ride itself is a loop that includes Paremata – Gear Homestead – Bothamley Park – Whitby – Pauatahanui – The Te Ara Piko Trail. Est distance is 24 kms.
This initial navigational ride was ridden in a clockwise direction and we started from Pautahanui.
It is intended to start the group ride from Marina View Paremata Beach.

Waipawa to Hatuma via Farm Road

A pop-up ride in Central Hawkes Bay for the E-bike Social Riders Hawkes Bay group. Suggested by Jenny and hosted by Geoff. The weather forecast proved to be correct – a beautiful sunny day, no wind and a little crisp. Ten riders in total. Geoff mooted the route from Waipawa to Hatuma via Farm Road and Waipukurau, along mainly quiet, undulating country roads, with no big hills. Farmlands and gentle hills, with wide vistas. The tops of the ranges were covered in cloud, so we missed out on seeing the snow. Good to see the grass greening up again after the recent drought.

Distance: 53 kms (per endomondo.com) 54.69 kms (per e-bike computer)

Carry on cycling thru the covid-19 lockdown

New Zealand went into Level 4 lock-down on the 25th March 2020 in an attempt to “flatten the curve” of the corona virus Covid-19 pandemic. Everyone who was not deemed an essential worker was told to “stay at home”. The world came to a halt, as did our Ebike Social Riders Hawkes Bay group rides.

Twin Coast Cycle Trail

The Pou Herenga Tai (Twin Coast Cycle Trail) is located in the Bay of Islands, Northland – at the top of the North Island Of New Zealand. The trail can be ridden in either direction but you may prefer to descend the 2kms of the steep switchback from Okaihau to Horeke. The landscape is varied, from native bush, forest, scrub and farmland. Occasional glimpses of the harbour edge, creeks and a lake.
