Taradale to Zeffer Cider

This 50kms circuit starts from Anderson Park in Taradale. There are sections of road riding to connect to the Hawkes Bay Trails as we wind our way out into Zeffer Cider country. Today we were lucky to see clearly the snow covered distant Ruahine Ranges and the peak of Mount Ruapahue (Taupo, Central North Island) from the trail. At this time of year, the countryside is looking splendid in it’s fresh, green spring colours and the apple orchards are in blossom.

Napier – Cross Country Drain Loop

The whole of New Zealand went into Level 4 Lockdown when Covid-19 was found to be in the community in August 2021. This meant that we were no longer able to ride in a group or to call in to cafes. My husband and I decided that we would aim to ride this approx. 30kms Napier-Cross Country Drain loop daily, alternating between clockwise and anti-clockwise. It’s been wonderful to observe the start of spring and to see the daily changes along the route. We have also been very lucky with the weather as it has been mostly fine.

Fourth Anniversary

Four years ago, the Ebike Social Riders Hawkes Bay group was formed. Since then, membership has grown as more people discover the joy of ebiking. To mark the anniversary, a ride incorporating the very first ride (the Puketapu Loop) was celebrated. We rode from the Boat Ramp Eatery (formerly Jandal Bar) in Ahuriri along the Hawkes Bay Trails, to The Puketapu Hotel return. Distance 62kms.

Crownthorpe Loop Clockwise

I like to seize the opportunity to get out riding on quiet country roads. The 53 kms Crownthorpe loop is one of my favourite e-bike rides in Hawkes Bay. The countryside is undulating and scenic. Doing this loop clockwise, the long straight stretch along Matapiro Road is dispensed with in the first half of the ride. There is an option to visit the historic Crownthorpe Church by continuing along Matapiro Road, then coming back to turn into Crownthorpe Road.

Distance approx. 53 kms

Visiting Hawkes Bay

You may have heard about the wonderful Hawkes Bay Trails, an extensive, approximately 200 kms, network of mainly limestone, shared pathways which are very much suited to eBike riding.

“While most cities and provincial areas in NZ now have cycleways and trails, Hawkes Bay has an entire network of pathways, tracks and trails, almost all of which are inter-connected. This enables you to plan your ride to take in coastal paths, wetlands, parks, gardens, wineries, markets, museums, riverbank rides, etc and for the large part, avoiding busy roads. A truly well planned infrastructure. And E bike Social Riders Hawkes Bay has an impressive list of rides on their fb page to help you plan your bike tour. With the summer coming, I recommend that you take a look at the possibilities and get on your bike!!” Geoffrey S Russell (e-biker extraordinaire).
