Clive to Clifton along the Coastal Pathway
One of the most popular Hawkes Bay Trail rides, is the Coastal Pathway from Clive to Clifton Bay. You may wish to make the ride longer (est. 26 km return) by starting at Napier iSite. As you head south, your destination is mostly in view – the landmark of Cape Kidnappers. The route takes you past the beautiful wetlands of Clive, where water birds seem to reside all year round; and apple orchards, farmland and vineyards. The Hawkes Bay sky looks vast.
Ohiti Road – Crownthorpe Loop
If you enjoy quiet country road and hills with beautiful scenery, then the Ohiti Road – Crownthorpe Loop is a must. Be sure to start with a fully charged battery as the hills are quite steep. There are vast vineyards mostly owned by Delegat Wines (one of New Zealand’s largest family owned and managed winemakers producing super-premium NZ wines for over 50 years), as well as farmland, orchards and rolling hills. Takapau Loop
The Takapau Loop, from Takapau to Norsewood return, explores the country roads of Central Hawkes Bay. It’s another E-bike ride where you need to have a fully charged battery. The scenery is interesting and quirky in places. The ride out has several uphills and we have encountered strong, battery depleting, headwinds. The return journey has more downhills and if you are a lucky, tailwinds. Scroll down to view an optional extra side loop.
Look to your left, between Takapau and Ormondville on a long curved uphill, to see the historic rail viaduct. Stop at Ormondville to visit the railway station, the old petrol station and the Church of the Epiphany. Distance approx 40 kms.

Park Island to Bayview via hills
The route from Park Island to Bayview via the hills, is a good way to not only test your fitness, it also gives you an opportunity to test out your gear changing and getting the best out of your e bike’s power levels. There are several hills and one hilltop with wonderful views out to sea. And then there are the amazing downhills if you are a speed hound. The roads are usually quiet but you may come across the odd logging truck. Be sure to keep over to the left.

Water Ride to Bayview
There are multiple points where you can begin the Water Ride out to Bayview. You can choose to do the complete Water Ride starting from Park Island, or you may choose to start from Ahuriri. The return ride is from Bayview along the Coastal Path. This is a flat ride, and the scene is forever changing, so keep an eye out for something new. Stay clear after heavy rain. Be sure to check the tides to ensure access under the road bridges if riding from Park Island. Est. distance: 45kms
Te Mata Peak
For e bike riders who are used to riding along the flat pathways of the Hawkes Bay Trails, the Te Mata Peak climb can be challenging. Learning how to use your gears and adjust for pedal assist power are great skills. It is all worthy of achieving. Not only are the views amazing from the top of the Peak, you can also experience the thrill of the long downhill. Rewards for the long steady climb upwards. Est Distance: 35 kms
